Education

Greensville County offers a number of competitive public and private school options to its citizens and transplants, making it the perfect community in which to raise a family.

Public Schools

Greensville County Public Schools (GCPS) provides comprehensive educational programs from pre-school through grade 12, enrolling over 2,500 students. The system includes four separate schools – two elementary, one middle, and one high school – and boasts a lower student-teacher ratio than the state average – 13:1 in K-7th grade and 10:1 in 8th – 12th grade.

Technology and computer-aided learning are an integral part of school programs, as well as college preparatory and advanced placement courses in general academic subjects, foreign languages, and humanities. Expanding technical education curriculum provides for focused programs in business education, health occupations, welding, printing, drafting, and building trades.

For particularly gifted junior and senior level students, the Governor’s School of Southside Virginia offers an advanced learning opportunity to earn an Associate’s Degree from Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) through a dual enrollment program between GCPS and SVCC.

GCPS also operates the Vocational/Technical Center within Greensville County High School, helping students to gain knowledge and exposure to a variety of post-high school careers such as CAD design, printing, and health care.
